This city located in the Syunik region was founded not so long ago, in 1870. It is located 240 km from the capital Yerevan. Goris is located on the Vararakn River. In 2015, the population of the city is 20,000 people and it has 24 villages.
In 1988, Goris had only a few dozen houses, but the interesting arrangement of the streets made Goris to be called a city. Goris is located at an altitude of 1370 meters.
